Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has been appointed as the bowling coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday.

LSG took to social media platform ‘X’ to announce the appointment. “A promising Indian attack, and Bharat Arun guiding them. We can’t wait to get started,” the post read.

“It’s an honour to join the Lucknow Super Giants, a franchise that reflects professionalism, ambition, and vision at every level,” Arun said in a statement.

“What excites me most is the vision for long-term development. LSG has invested in a young, talented, and dynamic group of Indian fast bowlers – Akash deep, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Akash Singh – and I see immense potential in each of them. My mission is to help shape them into a cohesive, fearless, and tactically sharp pace unit that can challenge the best batting line-ups in the world,” he added.

Arun started his coaching career with the Tamil Nadu domestic team and became the chief bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He then took over as head coach of the India Under-19 squad, and under him, India won the U19 World Cup in 2012, in Australia. As a player, he represented India in Tests and ODIs and was a very successful domestic player for Tamil Nadu.

The 62-year-old will join the LSG setup after ending his four-year tenure as a bowling consultant with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The former India bowling coach had a fruitful stint with KKR, including playing an important role in guiding them to the IPL 2024 title.

Previously, Arun was also part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru setup between 2015 and 2017.
